Why the Lashon Hora is so painful
Thanks Jewish Vaccine Stories
People know we do not vaccinate. It's not a secret.
Not that we publicize it. It really isn't a conversation we ever start. We actually don't talk about it with anyone.
About a year ago people started talking about us. Some of our friends are fine. They respect we have a different approach to vaccines. Never mind that one of our children was injured by a vaccine, and that that was a very long road to recovery. We simply can't risk it anymore!
So what happens now?
Our shul has been contacted - and our rabbi (though I'm not sure how we can call him "our rabbi" - more like "the rabbi of the shul") told us we are unwelcome.
Our kids are not allowed in school.
A young woman who sometimes watches our kids was "ratted on" by a neighbor, telling her employment that as long as she associates with us, she is a danger to everyone she works with. So of course she had to stop babysitting for us (the pressure is on!).
We sign up for programs through the library, and people call the library to tell them about us (even though it is illegal to do so, and illegal for the library to prevent us from attending).
People have called the camp our kids attend, threatening them that if the camp allows us to attend, no one else will go.
Yes. Jews are being "malshinim."
People who are unvaccinated are not contagious with diseases. If this weren't the life we are living now, we'd laugh at the absurdity!
There is a reason Lashon Hora was the cause of the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash. Our lives have been turned upside down by people pushing a very false and scary narrative - that we are dangerous and unworthy of being associated with.
Rabies and leprosy. That's us! Sad sad sad: sad how ignorant people are, and sad how our children are being caught in the crosshairs of something which is beyond our control - we can't risk another vaccine injury!
